Career Day 2008: How You Can Help Shape Our Industry’s Future

March 26, 2008

212 cordially invites New York's interactive advertising community and colleges and universities in the northeast and mid-Atlantic states to attend our 4th Annual Career Day and Recruitment Fair.  The one day fair, hosted at NYU's Wasserman Center for Career Development (133 E 13th St), will include networking sessions with industry professionals as well as helpful career panels, including:

1. Digital luminaries
2. How to write a resume/The art of Interviewing
3. A day in the life of a digital professional

Panelists currently include Jeff Minksy from OMD, David Cohen from Universal McCann, and Greg Smith from Carat.  In addition, representatives from Yahoo, Facebook, as well recruiting specialists will also participate in the panels.

Current exhibitors include Microsoft, Beyond Interaction, Linkshare, and Cheetahmail.

State of the Career Union

It's no secret that online advertising spending continues to climb, nor is it a secret that our industry's explosive growth cannot be sustained without fresh, energetic and talented young professionals.  After all, we can't poach from each other forever.  Each Career Day draws between 350 and 450 attendees, and this year will be no different.

How You Can Help

1) College Outreach
We are asking each and every member of 212 to reach out to your alma mater's career office and inform career counselors of the event.  All we ask is for one phone call.  Just think…one phone could set in motion a chain of events that leads to a hiring of one of your fellow graduates' and his or her embarking on a successful career in digital marketing.

2) We need exhibitors!
That is, unless you want to continue working sleepless nights because you have headcount to fill and no way to fill it.  If you are interested in sponsoring a booth at Career Day for a modest $2,500, please email us at info@212nyc.org and we'll get you moving in the right direction.  Forgo Starbucks or reduce your tchotchke budget and you'll get in front of hundreds of qualified candidates.

3) We need your stories!
We've set-up two discussions topics on our Facebook page:

    a. Classic interviewing blunders

    b. Classic resume blunders

If you're a 212 Facebook fan, now's your chance to share some of the horror stories you've seen, heard, experienced yourself, or caused in the annals of career advancement.

This year's Career Day promises to educate, inspire, and energize the future leaders of our industry, and with your help, we can make it happen.  Visit 212nyc.org to register to attend Career Day (free for 212 members) and click http://www.212nyc.org/whitepapers_docs/212%20-%20Career%20Day%2020081.ics to add a reminder to Outlook.
